How to come to Amorgos
1) France to Athens via a flight
2) Athens to Piraeus port (4 options : bus, metro, taxi, private transfer)
3) Piraeus port via a ferry to Aegiali, Amorgos 
We suggest visitors should arrive one day earlier in Athens or book a flight arriving before 14.00 so that they are at the port on time – most of the ferries to Amorgos leave at 17.30. There is one daily connection to Amorgos Island (except on Saturday during winter) from Piraeus port, Athens. Ferries dock alternately at the two ports of Amorgos Island: Katapola and Aegiali (closest to the hotel)

From the airport in Lisbon, the staff at The Lodge will pick you up and in 30 minutes you are in Praia Grande, the big beach, on golden sands, looking up at dazzling cliffs and watching the sun dance on the waves of the Sintra coastline.

The Lodge is situated up on the cliffs and about a 10-minute walk down to the beach.
In the grounds of The Lodge we find a landscaped oasis inside freshly painted terra cotta walls, outside a rugged natural paradise. Palms and flowering plants, large green spaces that just ask you to practice yoga under the sun and shade. A pool, sauna, and jacuzzi for relaxing or relieving aching muscles after a myriad of sports activities available by the staff, or which can be arranged for you by the staff: surfing, climbing, mountain biking.  More.

The rates below include a fabulous breakfast each morning with many home-made specialities.


The Lodge encourages participants who are taking advantage of the sports activities also to make a sandwich/lunch from the breakfast table so you can have a meal on the road in your activity. Dinner is on our own.
There will be a 90 minute class each am before breakfast and an evening time to be determined on the request of the group vis-a-vis any sport activities you are choosing. The rate is fixed for the week.

We found very reasonable flights on Vueling:

If you are unfamiliar with the Sintra area, it’s indeed worth a Google search to see all there is to offer there. It’s a wild natural place with it’s own ecosystem and many cultural UNESCO heritage sites, as well. It is not far from Cabo de Roca.

Yoga Retreat to the island of Milos

Reservations are now being taken for Milos, Aug 30-Sept 5, 2015.

Yoga for the week 300 euros, 2 classes a day in enchanting outdoor settings.

Accommodation rates vary on sharing from 30€ to 60€ a night.  The Residence will not be available to us until Aug 30.  Checkout can be Sept 6, for a full day of yoga, Sept 5.

Meals and flight are not included.

Aug 31-Sept 7, 2014

This year’s retreat begins and ends on two local festivals!

Kyriavgoustos, The big bonfire of August is celebrated on Aug 31.  The bonfire takes place around the whole of the island with young and old jumping over the flames.  The festival dates back to the ages when the Turks used to come to the island to collect taxes,  When the sentinels on the island saw the Turks coming, they lit fires on the peaks to warn the inhabitants to hide their crops and animals to avoid loot.  Once the danger was over, fires were lit in the town squares and people jumped and sang.

Today, the fire symbolizes the concentration of heat and power to help the Milians deal with flues and the cold the coming winter will bring.

On out last day in Provotas Beach there is the annual festival outside the local church with more music, dancing and singing and our final opportunity to partake in the homemade cuisine and hospitality of our hosts on this amazing little island.

A deposit for the workshop  300€ is requested no later than 1 June.   This confirms your reservation.  Places are limited to 15.

Balance is due August 1.   You can also pay by post-dated check and I will not be cashing the final balance until August 1.

Refund of deposit:

In full if you cancel before June 1.   Cancellations after June 1, 150€ will be held.

Shooting Stars and Flying Fish

Around our daily yoga practice of greeting the sun at 6:30am, just before the sunrises, we see the gold of the sun illumine the craggy rocks of the hill in front of us. As the gold deepens the little goat on the hill bleats us a good morning. The roosters crow in the distance and the soft breeze of the morning caresses our skin and cools us as we warm up our muscles. As our senses open up in our practice we hear the gentle movement of the waves on the beach below. This is how a typical morning begins on the yoga retreat on the island of Milos. By the time we move out of savansa the sun is higher and we are ready for breakfast on the shady patio. After that the day is ours to swim, to relax, to read or to join a field trip we schedule to explore the island.

A must is a boat trip around the island with scheduled stops to jump off and swim and snorkel through caves and rest on isolated beaches reachable only by boat. The boat tour lasts all day with a scheduled stop on the island of Kimolos for lunch and more exploration to the island’s little churches, a climb up the volcanos and a look at the wild horses. Back on the boat speeding to the next cove we see flying fish and Lionel in our group even spots a sea turtle! Afterward you are so invigorated, an evening practice is thoroughly wished for. In the evening we practice facing the sea. The sun sets to our left. We are shaded and cool and after savasana ready for evening rest and dinner at one of islands’ most reputable restaurants, a 3 minute walk away with a sweeping view of the sea and the moon and stars.

Late night you lie on your back as you did when you were a child and see the Milky Way so bright and so close to you it feels a few kilometers away. These are nights in Milos, full of light from the sky. Shooting stars are not a rare sight. A new moon gave us a full night of possiblities to see them.

Alternatives to a typical day is yoga on the beach on a raised platform where you practice gazing out to the horizon where sea meets sky. One of the field trips includes a trip to an evening practice at Sarakiniko. Sarakiniko is a geological marvel. The locals call it the moon scape as the area was formed by lava that cooled to a brilliant white and formed craters and coves. An evening trip and practice allows you to appreciate the brilliance without the glare to the eyes during mid-day. Here you can also swim, jump off cliffs into the cobalt blue Aegean. I jumped!

Our practices allowed us to stretch the limits we had of ourselves, to face the walls we put up when we think we can’t do more and stay in our usual habits. A yoga retreat helps remind us these limitations are put up by us, that weput our minds in this place. With our breath we move these walls a little further away to be carried away on the soft breeze that surrounds us.
